On August 11, the HBS Club of Singapore hosted an event with Professor Aiyesha Dey who gave a presentation on the topic of the Anatomy of Fraud, based on an MBA course she teaches at HBS. The event was attended by about 40 participants, a mix of HBS, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, MIT and Columbia alumni.

Professor Dey shared her research on the impact of CEO lifestyle and traits on corporate behavior and performance, suggesting that CEO personality significantly influences corporate fraud susceptibility, emphasizing the need for robust governance and due diligence systems. The presentation also included an overview of the prevalence and causes of securities fraud, the conditions under which fraud tends to occur, and the primary parties who are most likely to detect when fraud is happening. A lively interaction with participants ensued, with varied questions which examined the interplay between nature and nurture and the relation to fraud, and the definition of fraud in different contexts and jurisdictions.
